Lisden in La-La Land…

Lisden are back on home soil after a once in a lifetime trip to Los Angeles to collect an award at the Engineering Emmys.

The Engineering Emmys, which are the technology equivalent of the Primetime Emmys, are awarded by The Television Academy to recognise developments in broadcast technology.

Lisden Technology’s Director and Software Engineer, Kelvin Lawson, and Sara Evans, Lisden’s Development Manager, attended the awards ceremony to accept the Engineering Plaque.

Award-winning software (*blush*)

The Engineering Plaque celebrates achievements that exhibit a high level of engineering and are important to the progress of the television industry.

The Plaque was awarded for the CATS Cam developed by the Customised Animal Tracking Solutions (CATS) international team with Lisden’s Kelvin Lawson working remotely as Chief Software Engineer on the project.

The CATS Cam is a video camera that can be harmlessly attached to animals to capture footage from their point of view, including under the ocean. This technology has given scientists and wildlife filmmakers the unique opportunity to record natural animal behaviour and share this with television viewers.

CATS Cams have captured world firsts in animal behaviour and images from the cameras were used in the recent high-profile BBC series Blue Planet II, as well as in documentaries made by National Geographic and Discovery Channel amongst others.

It’s fantastic that the work everyone has put into the CATS Cam has been recognised by winning this award decided on by TV industry experts and other engineers. For Lisden, it’s been amazing to be part of a project where the software we write helps people to learn more about the world around us and, of course, it was a real honour to attend the Emmys ceremony.
